ABSTRACT

Teachers standards 2012 state that teaching staff should Fulfil wider professional responsibilities by: Deploying support staff effectively. This chapter presents roles and responsibilities of Support staff. They should have a knowledge of their job description, maintain a professional demeanour with parents, and be aware of school policies with regard to behaviour, anti-bullying, child protection. The Support staff also ensures that information provided by parents is given to the appropriate member of staff class teacher, Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), and ensure that recommendations, communications or reports from outside agencies are passed to the teacher and SENCO. They should be participate in the planning and monitoring process, share skills, observe and learn from other professionals in school and in other establishments, undertake training in school and through external courses. The Support staff also encourages the pupils independence at all times: independent self-help skills, personal organisation.
