ABSTRACT

China calmly responded to upheaval in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe beyond ideological differences and relations with emerging independent countries, and quickly straightened out the relationship with the Soviet Union and Eastern European countries. Among the 21 Western European countries with diplomatic relations with China, all countries except Finland issued statements to condemn China and impose sanctions against China in accordance with the European Community (EC) resolutions. The boundary between China and 11 countries became a link for friendship and cooperation, which overtook the affinity at the time of Sino- Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) friendly cooperation. Japan's diplomatic policy against China was different from that of other western countries. From a political point of view, the upheaval in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe played a profound role of alerting the Chinese people. From a comprehensive analysis of political, economic and strategic aspects, the upheaval in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe seemed adverse for China.
