ABSTRACT

Definition of Hate Violence “Hate violence” is a form of hate crime, which is a crime motivated by

prejudice based on the symbolic status of a victim. Violence is perpetrated against a victim because of what that person represents. These symbolic statuses can include race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or political organization. The burning of a synagogue in Tunisia is one example. Gay bashing in America is another example. Religious riots in Iraq is still another. Hate violence is, therefore, an extremely heterogeneous phenomenon that occurs in nearly all human communities.
