ABSTRACT
Behavioral Models and the Change Process Throughout this book, there is an emphasis on behavioral models regarding communi-
cation, leadership, motivation, and planning. Each of the models can assist the police
manager in conceptualizing approaches to organizational problems. In addition, these
models provide managers with a variety of approaches for making judgments as to
needed changes in policy, procedure, personnel, as well as their own behavior. All
models, however, are only approximations of reality. They are only useful when police
managers can adapt the model to assist their understanding of the realities of the orga-
nizational environment.
