ABSTRACT

Overview How do the people in your police department get along? How do they feel about their

superiors or their colleagues across the hall? Do they agree on how decisions are made

and who should do what jobs? Probably not. Conflicts are inevitable in human organi-

zations. These conflicts are believed to arise from personality differences, and they can be

major obstacles to efficient operation. This chapter describes a method of helping police

managers recognize these differences and use them to strengthen their agencies.
