Ethical Issues and Investigative Techniques
Techniques Law enforcement officers have a demanding, complex, and dangerous job. They are
often taken for granted by the public they serve. Compounding the situation is the fact
that officers usually encounter people during the worst of times. Some of the people
whom officers meet in the line of duty are completely honest and candid with them.
Unfortunately, other people are not as honest and law-abiding. It is not unusual for
officers to be threatened and abused verbally and physically while attempting to per-
form their duties. Others may attempt to intimidate the officer by claiming position
and influence that can be used against the officer.
