ABSTRACT

Punctuation is one of the more logical and helpful aspects of grammar.

Learn enough about it so that it will work for you.

Few people realize that there are two kinds of punctuation: open and

closed. Open refers to using the fewest possible punctuation marks, e.g.,

omitting the comma before the final and in a series or leaving off the

period at the end of a line when listing points on separate lines. Periods

are omitted at the ends of items in a vertical list or enumeration, unless

the items are complete sentences.
