ABSTRACT
Everyone who studies leadership can ascertain its key ingredients and components, but knowing the right mix of these ingredients is an art. Just as knowing the materials and techniques of painting does not ensure the production of great art, knowing the methods and techniques of leadership does not guarantee you will be a great leader, or even a good one. Leading involves giving direction and supervision. It requires authority and, in criminal justice organizations, an office from which to exercise it.
