ABSTRACT

All areas of life contain ethical dilemmas, and the field of research is no exception. A number of concerns related to the professional behavior of academic researchers have made newspaper headlines, stirred government inquiries, and ultimately raised questions about what is considered appropriate within the research process. Academic researchers have been accused of such acts as falsifying data to obtain additional research funding and fabricating or misrepresenting results in order to get their research published. Even celebrated researchers have been found to have fabricated some or all of the research upon which their scholarship is based (Bhattacharjee, 2013).
