ABSTRACT
THE INTERROGATION Several years ago, a rarity occurred. A series of thefts took place at a law
enforcement academy operated by a well-known law enforcement agency. A thief had taken money from the rooms of fi ve or six students. None of the thefts exceeded $50. However, given the circumstances, particularly the location, academy offi cials considered these thefts intolerable. They wanted to solve the crime and deal with the culprit, and they began by conducting a preliminary investigation.
