Relationship is the foundation of coaching. It is the process of influencing the actions of others in such a way that the outcomes are mutually satisfying to everyone concerned. This is done through communicating and motivating. The creation of a positive relationship between a coach and a subordinate reinforces organizational intent and purpose. Coaches have to be conversant in organizational values. They are the reason an organization exists. They are more abstract than rules and regulations, they set the organizational tone, and they convey meaning that guides an officer’s behavior.
