ABSTRACT

Unfortunately, and for many reasons, investigators frequently fail to utilize information in the most effective or efficient manner. There is also a tendency for some investigators to either misread or misinterpret the vast amount of information that may be available in a case. In complex investigations there may be thousands of pages or even hundreds of boxes of data in a major case. The documents related to the JFK assassination fill a room, and the computer records and other data in the fraud case of stockbroker Bernard Madoff involve as much as a million documents, according to one investigator. Further, even where the information may be catalogued or recorded, its veracity may be in question.
