ABSTRACT

Any serious study looking into the understanding and control of crime gains insight from a wide variety of disciplines. A list might include history, criminal justice, political science, sociology, computer science, psychiatry, and even biology. Because the concern of this text must be narrow, it is limited to how crimes are solved-using legal means. With this in mind it would be advantageous at the outset to define some elementary terms in the field of criminal investigation: crime, criminal law, case law, and the Model Penal Code.
