ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION One of the most feared crimes is murder-it can completely immobilize a community hit by a series of localized killings. Media publicity and the growth of social media have served to “popularize” crime, and a murder will undoubtedly have an impact on a community. Where the murder is committed by an unknown person, especially coupled with another crime such as robbery or home invasion, the result is likely to be fear and uncertainty. The removal of such offenders following a competently conducted investigation is not only a gratifying result for the investigators and officials who direct it, but for the general public as well.
