ABSTRACT
A prison sentence is the second most severe punishment that can be inflicted upon a criminal offender. For most of us, our perceptions of prison are shaped by movies ( The Shawshank Redemption ) and television shows ( Oz ). Some of these dramatizations have been realistic, some sensationalistic, and some ridiculous. Scriptwriters may never get it right because prison is an abnormal environment that becomes normal for the persons who live and work there.
