ABSTRACT
The authors are grateful to the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration for publication of the Dictionary of Criminal Justice Data Terminology , from which many of the following terms and definitions have been extracted. It is in the spirit of that effort to standardize criminal justice terminology that we have decided to include this section. It is hoped that students, especially those new to the field, will take the time to read and absorb the meanings of these tools of the trade.
