ABSTRACT

This chapter presents both the traditional forms of contract SBC/Q2011 and MW2011 are quality-driven contracts. The designers not only produce the detailed design, but also perform supervisory functions under the contract, including authorising interim and final payment, practical completion of the work and final certification that the works are complete as intended. Supervisory consultants are not envisaged with this form and there is no reference to certificates. For the traditional contracts, SBC/Q2011 and MW2011, the Architect will produce a list of defects towards the end of the period. All three contracts maintain quality by setting out the quality requirements in the contract documents and then by making provisions for ensuring that the contractor sticks. The pre-contract process involves the Architect in producing detailed drawings from which the Quantity Surveyor will measure items to include in the bills. With SBC/Q2011, the Quantity Surveyor will be valuing work for interim payment and passing the valuation to the Architect to certify.
