ABSTRACT
Common chimpanzees are one or more species of the genus Pan (Box 25.1). The term serves to distinguish them from one species that has been called the “pygmy” chimpanzee, also widely known as the bonobo (see Chapter 26). Common chimpanzees are heavier than bonobos, ranging from about 35 to 65 kilograms.
