ABSTRACT

This chapter explains about individuals who have committed a serious crime on account of a serious mental disorder or defective development including a personality disorder or severe intellectual disability. First the chapter provides an overview of the Dutch forensic mental health system then presents an approach towards assessment findings and illustrates the importance of objective forensic mental health assessments by independent experts in cases where a patient has been assigned the label permanently at risk. It also deals with Psychological Test Findings, Rorschach Inkblot Method Test, SIDP-IV Interview and Risk Assessment. It also evaluates the use of standardized; objective tools for psychological and risk assessment, revealed the absence of serious mental disorder and high recidivism risk. The chapter concludes the need for independent forensic assessment and the risk of mixing the roles of forensic assessor and treating clinician.
