ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the forensic mental health assessment (FHMA) of Samir, a young man born in Morocco, who moved to The Netherlands with his family when he was a teenager where Samir and his friends first stole a car and used it to commit the offenses. This case of Adolescent Violent Offender has a detailed analysis of Samir Mental Health Reports which shows developing in the direction of Antisocial Personality Disorder in Samir. The chapter also demonstrates the importance of transcultural sensitivity in the forensic assessor, and how this is helpful to avoid ethnic, religious, and cultural bias. The author's diagnostic conclusion was that Samir's recidivism risk is still highly situation-dependent; a risk judgment of moderate seems to be adequate to capture the possibility of him relapsing into old behavioral patterns under a combination of adverse circumstances.
