ABSTRACT

I THE series of four drawings we must now discuss is unmistakably retrograde in character. The lowering of consciousness that was observed in the last drawing of the previous series has gone still further, and now all semblance of heroic virtue has departed from the figure which played the leading role. What purports to be the hero, is an ill-drawn, greedy creature, resembling the crude, infantile conception of the hero which figured in Drawing VI.
