ABSTRACT

This final chapter draws together the overarching themes that are present within the collection. In doing so, a call is made for ‘lengthening’ the restorative justice lens to move beyond the confines of current praxis. The chapter suggests that restorative justice in transitional settings needs to be characterised by three elements: (1) it should include all stakeholders, (2) it should be culturally relevant, and (3) it should be forward looking. This demonstrates a desire to move beyond the status quo, to increase participatory opportunities for those who have been most directly affected by conflict and to overhaul the way in which we conceive justice.
