ABSTRACT

Evidence-based practice begins with the selection of assessment and intervention programs that are empirically supported through research studies to effectively meet the varied needs school psychologists attempt to address. As important as it is to select empirically supported assessments and interventions, it is equally important to administer programs in a way true to their design and the research on which they are based. The degree to which standardized procedures for administration of assessment tools are followed is known as assessment integrity. School psychologists use theory, research, and practice together in a systematic and logical way to make the best choices for their educational settings. When faced with a suboptimal situation, such as a student or group of students performing below expectations academically or behaviorally, school psychologists first look to published research for guidance on the best approach.
