ABSTRACT

This chapter offers suggestions and examples related to data analysis within photovoice studies. When considering analysis with photovoice projects, it becomes clear that the analyses are carried out for few purposes. Grounded theory has evolved since its inception. Open coding is similar to sorting puzzle pieces prior to putting the puzzle together. Axial coding is a process of reassembling the fragments of word data that were dismantled during the open coding process. The final coding step was theoretical coding which moves analytic story in a theoretical direction. During this process, the researcher seeks to create connections between categories and further collapse thematic ideas. The three levels of coding, open, axial, and theoretical, culminated in the creation of constructed grounded theories. It is vital to express that data collection and analysis occurred simultaneously through a constant comparative approach.
