ABSTRACT

This chapter, focuses at working independently and preparing for different types of assessment, with the main focus on how to do well on the course: Working independently, Writing an essay, Finding references, Giving a presentation, Achieving a good mark in essays and exams. Most universities have specific essay writing guidelines, and it is important to know these before writing. A university essay or report generally needs to be accompanied by references, which give evidence of the information. Notes from reading the literature can be an excellent start to an essay. When stuck with one section of the essay, one can always go on to a different part, or even a different essay. Time is better spent in linking the discussion back to the literature review, and making the essay readable and clear. The first presentations of the essay do not work out too well; It takes a lot of practice to become a proficient and good presenter.
