ABSTRACT

The author looks at the prospects of linguistics graduates, discussing the skills gained during the degree and how these can be employed in different careers. The author also look in more detail at typical careers of linguistics graduates and how one can best prepare for the world of work. The career that a fair number of the students choose is to go through teacher training in order to become a school teacher. Studying linguistics does not lead to a career in just one specific area, rather, linguistics students gain a wide set of highly desirable skills that lead to excellent chances to get a job, in a wide range of careers. The entrepreneurial activities of linguistics graduates include setting up a language school or a language consultancy. linguistics graduates have a wide range of skills applicable in many different areas. Communication skills acquired through the different types of assessment, such as writing essays and giving presentations.
