ABSTRACT
Although desistance, therefore, certainly exists, our understanding of exactly how desistance processes develop remains a work in progress. There is now much more evidence about these processes than there was at the turn of the millennium, but many important matters relating to desistance are still subject to debate and refinement. Up to September 2014, there had been few attempts to draw together the authors of these various studies on desistance into creative dialogue. This brings us to that other event of September 2014, the Sheffield conference, which has led directly to the chapters of this book.
