ABSTRACT

Rudolf Von Laban says that the element of Flow is related to precision in thought and action. The element of Flow can be either Free or Bound. Bound Flow is practical, structured, a thoughtful, considered action or an immediate response to a crisis; it is essentially a building, creative process requiring form, outline and structure. Both Bound and Free qualities are essential for life and must be used appropriately. The game uses speech and normal behavioural action. The game is an improvisation, as well as a movement exercise, so players can be encouraged to talk to each other while working together. The teacher needs to look out for Bound-Flow players who just stand still and talk to their partners, and for Bound-Flow players who haul their floppy partners around painfully. After each stage that includes a change of roles for each person, from Free to Bound Flow, players will need time to talk about their experiences.
