ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses an effective training programs educate both the therapist and organization on principles and best practices, use active learning styles, encourage flexibility within treatment, and establishes a support system for both the therapist and the organization. After successfully treating several cases, many Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) therapists express a desire to train colleagues in this modality. So-called train the trainer programs have been developed to address their needs and to disseminate CBT more widely in the community. Training models for CBT have also highlighted the need to include general therapeutic competencies and general CBT competencies. Before attempting to train others in child CBT, it is wise to reflect upon those aspects of training one personally found helpful. Training models for community-based CBT are evolving as new technologies become available. For example, we have successfully trained a number of practitioners in child CBT using tele-psychiatry methods.
