ABSTRACT

Omedi Ochieng, assistant professor at Denison University, is an expert on the ways in which one’s own knowledge is modulated by class, gender, race, sexuality, disability, and other identities. In this chapter he addresses the challenge reporters face when they assume their interview subjects use the same cultural cues as they do. This chapter offers a framework for understanding intercultural journalism and provides interview tips for situations when a source’s cultural background is unfamiliar.
