ABSTRACT

Roman Catholics are less threatened by neurosis than members of other religious confessions. The smallest number of complex manifestations in practising Catholics, far more in Protestants, and the most in Jews. There is an old tradition in the Catholic Church of the directeur de conscience, a sort of leader of souls. It explains to a certain extent why the practising Catholic would rather go to the priest. For instance, there was a lady who played a very great role in the war. She was very Catholic, and always in the summer she used to come to Switzerland to pass her summer holiday. That is no objection to Protestantism; it is exactly the same as the story about the Code Napoleon. The splitting up of Protestantism into new denominations, is a sign of life.
