ABSTRACT
Periodic Inspection is the province of experienced inspector who has not only the knowledge and technical expertise to competently carry out the testing process but who is also fully conversant with correct electrical installation practices. The purpose of the periodic inspection and testing is to establish whether or not the installation is in satisfactory condition for continued use. This is achieved by relevant inspection and appropriate testing, the most important test is the loop impedance test. Periodic Inspection and Testing is a simple and straightforward process, and often requested by clients, reluctantly, to satisfy insurers or an impending visit by the HSE. Some reasons for a Periodic Inspection and Test are to ensure the safety of persons and livestock and to ensure protection of property from fire and heat. An electrical installation condition report (EICR), a schedule of test results and a schedule of inspections is utiliized.
