There may be a requirement to determine the voltage at the terminals of equipment to ensure that items of electrical equipment will function correctly and safely. As the maximum volt drop will occur when the circuit is at full load and at maximum cable operating temperature it would be unlikely that an accurate instrument measurement would be achievable. Hence the calculation method is used.
