ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the active work that rural parents engage in, both inside and outside the home, to provide their children with a good learning environment. Rural parents understand how the provision of schooling materials aids their children in the home and school. Rural families in the study recognize their involvement in their children's schooling as working to earn financial capital, which can be converted into objectified capital for their children, which also serves as symbolic capital to show that parents care about their children's schooling. Thus, it is important to highlight that rural parents in the study are involved in their children's schooling by pursuing additional paid and unpaid work to provide learning materials to support their children's schooling. This chapter presents the voices of the families who emphasized the importance of relieving their children of household chores so they could focus their energies on their studies. By relieving children of chores parents also take on additional work inside the home.
