ABSTRACT

Kinematics Teaching Methodology (KTM) spelled out a nine-step process that resulted in higher academic achievement in math. They are verbal and visual introduction, creating an individualized shape bank, creating an individualized transition bank, introduction of curricular content, individual and group exploration, rehearsing group work, final review and rehearsal, class presentations, and final performance and summary. The chapter provides examples of teaching sight words and homophones by implementing KTM. It explains the concept of sight words, and provides an example of a classroom lesson using KTM. The most rewarding use of KTM was when students were able to coherently explain how the movements they performed were related to or reflected the abstract concept in discussion. Allowing English for Students of Other Language students to explain themselves in their native language, before finding the words to describe the same in English, helped to build confidence.
