ABSTRACT

In Chapters 5 and 6 we described the instruments of the financial and the regulatory type. In this chapter we complement the inventory of the EU toolkit with a third instrument: coordination. The aim of this chapter is to describe the ways in which the coordination instrument can be used to ensure that the different EU and national policies reinforce each other, or at least are not contradictory. The structure of the chapter translates the main aim: first, we will discuss some fundamentals and then the coordination of cohesion with the main policy areas.
