ABSTRACT

In this chapter we compare the software industry of three European countries – Italy, Spain and Germany – applying and further developing the three fundamental dimensions of a business model, i.e. strategy, finance and organization. Our aim is to detect a structural profile of this industry in countries with a different model of capitalism – ‘Central European’ versus ‘Southern European’ – and to study the characteristics of the business model of the Southern countries, Italy and Spain, known for their strong institutional inertia.
