The Green Movement comprises a wide range of groups which, although they seek to retain their autonomy, are united over certain themes and concepts. Table 2.1 attempts to provide the reader with a rough summary of the main trends that have either reflected or influenced the evolution of the diverse strands of the Green Movement. An assessment of the state ments made by the intellectual inspirers of the movement does provide us with insights into the main themes and concepts which have influenced and arisen out of it. The intellectual inspirers exercise a decisive influence since they are often themselves activists and, if there is a lack of correspondence between their ideas and those of their supporters, they are subjected to heavy criticism.
