ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses that in Exodus, a new Pharaoh arises who hates the sons of Israel and decides to enslave them. The Israelites were to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses. Herodotus speaks of Pharaoh Cheops, who forced the Egyptians to build a pyramid for him. Israel became the slave of a foreign king in Exodus, while in Genesis the Egyptians had become the slaves because of Pharaohs debt thanks to Joseph. According to Jacques Cazeaux, Abram and Sarais story in Egypt is a downsized version of the Exodus story. This repetition catches the attention of the reader, for the writer could have been spared some effort by saying that Bezalel did everything according to Moses plan, then passing directly on to Leviticus. The nameless god is the divine craftsman 'the Demiurge' that created all that is on Earth, in heaven and beneath the ground, and even the gods.
