ABSTRACT

RIBA's BIM Overlay offered a template which could be superimposed over the Outline Plan of Work based on a set of defined Work Stages. Online guidance is supplemented by an online tool which can be used to produce bespoke and project-specific Plan of Work templates. The digital tool is structured to track RIBA Plan of Work 2013 work stages and was designed as a repository to host open, shareable and verifiable asset information. The Plan of Work is used to map out and monitor design process, the standards which cover cost planning and financial management are the New Rules of Measurement (NRM) published by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. For cost planning purposes there is a pressing need to develop standards for the representation of BIM model building elements at various stages of development between RIBA Plan of Work Stages. This raises the possibility of cost data being embedded in BIM models and carried forward for whole life use.
