ABSTRACT

Patrick MacLeamy says: The term 'BIM, BAM, BOOM!' explains the way it should use and think about the model through the project. BIM (Business Information Modelling) is a digital process that builds a virtual model of the real world and in so doing allows analysis, simulations and full testing before the foundations are even marked out, as well as creating a useful platform for communicating with clients, authorities and financial stakeholders. The design is then handed off to the contractor who streamlines the building process with BAM (Building Assembly Modelling), which allows for a significant decrease in construction costs. Once complete, BAM is turned over to the owner and becomes BOOM (Building Owner Operator Model). This allows the owner to manage the building over time and ensure optimised building performance throughout its entire life cycle. The real promise of 'BIM, BAM, BOOM!' is better design, better construction, better operation. It is closely related to building information modelling.
