ABSTRACT

Teaching science is not just about the subject matter but is about ways and means, the contexts, of how the subject can be taught. Some of these contexts are specific to science, such as the use of prac tical work. Some are more general but never the less directly applic able to science such as language or the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This chapter explores some of these contexts that need to be borne in mind when teach ing and learn ing science, how science can be made access ible to pupils and how it connects to other areas of the school curriculum and beyond.
