ABSTRACT

In order to use Arabic numbers properly, it is necessary to know two different sets of numbers: the cardinal and ordinal numbers. Both sets are based on distinct patterns and follow specific rules of agreement and word order. One of the most common errors in Arabic is to mix the use of cardinal and ordinal numbers, for example, students often confuse “one hour” with “the first hour”. In this chapter you will learn how to differentiate between cardinal and ordinal numbers and when to use each set of numbers. Other areas of concern are agreement rules between number and noun as well as the correct expression of time and date.
