Pages 31

The purpose of the Introduction is to familiarize the audience, who are subject-matter experts, with the most recent and relevant research so they can understand how the current research findings fit into the current understanding of the topic. This chapter helps readers to select content to present in the Introduction section, organize content in the Introduction section following the "Create a Research Space" model, and write in a scientific style and edit style problems that commonly arise in the Introduction section. It covers the content, organization, and style of the Introduction section. Present tense is used in most of the Introduction section since authors are primarily presenting general research claims from previously published journal articles. The bulk of the Introduction section is a brief, focused summary of previous research that leads from the general problem to the specific objectives of the present research study.
