ABSTRACT
The eighty years from 1750 to 1830 saw the Northeast undergo a startling transformation. During this time there took place an agrarian revolution, an industrial revolution and, consequent upon these, a social revolution. Society was remodelled, and people’s ways of working, thinking, and relaxing all recast. This period saw the disappearance of the old ‘medieval’ Northeast and the emergence of the modern society.
