ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents detailed information about the conditions in the individual countries that were part of Project 3535. It focuses on explicating what was distinctive about each country. It discusses the careful attention to using procedures that would ensure the reliability and validity of both qualitative and quantitative data. The book formulates an integrative model of how bidirectional work-family conflict (WFC) was related to within- and cross-domain antecedents and outcomes in the work and family domains. Project 3535 was the first cross-cultural study to look at the effects of moderating variables on work-family (W-F) positive spillover. Project 3535 was the first study to use a multi-method approach that combined qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate W-F guilt. Project 3535 was the first cross-cultural study to examine how the coping strategies used by employed parents impacted on the amount of WFC they experienced.
