ABSTRACT

M. R. Frone, J. K. Yardley, and K. S. Markel suggested that there are two directions of work-family conflict (WFC) in which work interferes with family and family interferes with work. The United States government is the largest employment sector in the US with 22 million of the 154.4 million employed in the US. The chapter focuses only two meta-analyses that were focused on the antecedents and outcomes of work-family enrichment/positive spillover. Workplace support can come in the form of formal policies and programs or more informal support that develops as part of the work-family culture in an organization. A meta-analysis conducted by J. S. Michel et al. examined the relationship between personality and enrichment and found extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience to be positively related to the overall construct of work-family enrichment. A key technique offered by both men and women in this sample to manage work and family responsibilities was "planning".
