ABSTRACT

Professor Duan’s case is an example of how the faculty development work of the Center for Teaching and Learning Development (CTLD) at Yunnan University, China, has changed both faculty teaching and students’ learning. In this chapter, we will present and analyze the case of faculty development work at Yunnan University, located in southwest China, using teachers’ real stories to illustrate the approaches CTLD has used to transform teaching from teacher-centered to student-centered learning. This faculty development program included seminars, workshops, action research, and continuous discussion and exchanges between participating faculty. In the past four years from 2011 to 2014, the program has helped 1,300 faculty members in the university apply new teaching and learning

concepts and approaches in their course designs and facilitation, leading to improvements in their teaching.
