ABSTRACT

In October 2012, the first author of this chapter (Schendel) was at the Kigali Institute of Science & Technology (KIST) 1 in Rwanda, conducting the second phase of a study investigating the development of critical thinking skills within Rwanda’s public universities. The first phase of the study had found that KIST students (along with students at other public universities) were not improving their critical thinking abilities during their time at university (Schendel, 2015). This second phase aimed to investigate potential reasons for this apparent lack of improvement by creating case studies of faculty departments within the participating universities.
