ABSTRACT

Part of our work is helping the professionals fi nd their stance with regard to veterans and their loved ones: to consider not only what to say and do but how to be. We are encouraging a much more collaborative stance with veterans and families. Recovery should be personal and consumer-driven. Sometimes clinicians use their knowledge as self-protection and to create distance from families. Many times they would be more effective if they could just be there and listen and offer consultation and support as needed.
